Milwaukee Region road racing offers wheel to wheel excitement on some of the most scenic race tracks in the country. Michael Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Scott Sharp, Danny Sullivan, Paul Newman and many others started their careers with the SCCA and you can too.
Start by joining the SCCA, see your doctor for a sports physical, submit your Novice Permit Application and sign up for the spring drivers school. If you're aged 16-18 you'll also need a minor release waiver. Note that your car will have to have the required safety gear per the General Competition Rules or GCR. Another option is to rent a car for your drivers school so you can concentrate on your driving and not have to worry about breaking in a new-to-you car. The links page has more info or contact the Novice Licensing Chairperson if you have more questions.
You might also want to read the book "Go ahead and take the wheel". This comprehensive guide to motorsports provides everything you need to know to get started in Solo events, Performance Driving Experience (PDX), Time Trials and Club Racing. Buy your copy today at SCCA Collections or call 888-267-2187.
You can also get out on the track with you current car by participating in HPDE's or "track days". Look for the October event at Road America. Solo or Autocrossing is another great way to learn car control at safer speeds with lower entry fees.
